We went to In & Out Burger for dinner the other night. Lucia sat in her little portable seat which I think she really likes because she can sit up and look around.

Crawling this week?

I think Lucia is pretty close to start her first crawl. She may start moving around this week. When she's on her belly she is doing army push-ups and pulling her legs up under herself, then she wobbly rocks back and forth. Video coming soon.

Low key brag fest

Mattias suggested we go to this car meet in the parking lot behind Santana Row in San Jose to check out the nice cars that show up there Saturday in the AM hours.
It was well worth it. Although there was not a lot of cars there, the few that showed up photographed well.

Lucky for me Mattias offered me to drive his Porsche 996 Carrera (isn't that the model number Mattias?) which was a dream to drive. The car just felt amazing, I would drive it everyday.

Smogged

I had to have my car's emissions tested, (a so called smog test) and it passed with great grades. Curiously it passed with better results than two years ago!

Awesome Weekend

Our friends Mary and David came to visit this weekend from LA. After trudging through traffic and a grueling 7-hour drive, they arrived late Friday night. We all went to bed immediately, as the babies don't care what time you go to bed, they want to get up and party at the same time every morning.

Saturday morning we hung out, made eggs and Mary and I took Lucia to Day One for some toy and gift purchases. We got Lucia THESE, and a push toy for Danny that was eerily remniscent of toys we made in middle school shop class. David and Pete went to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's to stock up for our celebratory dinner.

When Mary and I got back, David had already started cooking. And he proceeded to keep going for the next like, 6 hours. It was crazy. He was prepping, then doing this, then that. He kept the kitchen very tidy, which Pete noted and told him (not too quietly thankyouverymuch) that when I cook I make a total mess. Ouch, but true.

Anyway, here's what we had:

Wild Mushroom Soup with bacon
Spaetzle with Butternut Squash and Crispy Fried Sage
Braised Pureed Celery Root
Jerusalem Artichokes (coarsely chopped, with butter? I think)
Filet mignon (our neighbor kindly sold us this -- he's the chef partner at a steakhouse)
Chocolate-covered strawberries

We had saved a bottle of Dom Perignon (from Niels) for TWO years, and were waiting for just the right occasion to drink it. Saturday night felt right. We broke out the champagne flutes and partied. I drank too much wine. And ate too much food. But it was so wonderfully delicious and exquisite. My favorite part: the crispy sage and the meat. Thanks David for making an incredible dinner!! It was amazing.

Mary and I had a good time playing with each other's babies, and talking about old times and just hanging out. The weather was pretty crappy (pouring rain) so we couldn't go for walks or a hike, as I had wanted. Instead we took a lot of naps -- a very suitable substitution.

I wish they lived closer; it was a great weekend!

Schoochy Schoocherstein

We took this the other night too. Enjoy. She should be crawling any day now...

Howdy!

**** NOTE **** Mrs. B is getting plenty of attention and love, don't worry. We could probably improve on the walks though. ;)

Ok, the audio is LOUD. Sorry. I've never been a quiet person. :)

Bacon chocolate (4/6)

What on earth can be better??? Bacon goes well with almost anything, so why not also chocolate?
There has been many partnerships of fortune throughout the ages:
Smith&Wesson, Black&Decker, Barnes&Noble, Ben&Jerry, and some foods compliment each other perfectly: Beer&Pizza, Chicken&Pasta to mention some. And then there's Bacon&Chocolate.
Why didn't I think of that?!!

Heather and I opened the packaging drooling like Lucia and could not get our hands on the bacon chocolate fast enough.
First thing you taste is the chocolate, it melts on your tongue like regular milk chocolate and has a nice texture, but it is milk chocolate not dark so that was a little bummer. Next is Ther some very small crunchy pieces which I actually like a lot. These are probably the bacon pieces. After about 1.6 seconds the bacon starts to hit and it is really good! No joke. it is actually as good as you would think it is. Last comes the aftertaste and it is a bit of a disappointment. After several bites I think it tastes too metallic, or maybe too smokey, either way I dont like it too much.
Verdict: Great start, not so great finish.

A Pretty Good Weekend

We had a pretty good weekend! We went to Mattias and Cindy's Saturday night for dinner, which was so delicious we will certainly be getting the cookbook the recipe came from. We met their daughter Maya for the first time, and she's of course adorable. It was a fun night; conversation kept drifting back to our times at the NICU. I think it was traumatic for both families -- hopefully the bad memories will fade with time.

We also had to buy one of these, and now I'm in love with it.

We're heading to SF tonight for our friend's birthday party. We're excited!
