Terrifying

Lucia has been battling a cold this week, which seemed to get worse after she went to daycare Thursday and even worse on Friday. I know she was running a fever when I got her home on Friday, so I gave her Motrin. No big deal. Saturday she slept a lot, but also ate and drank just fine, but she still felt feverish and her eyes were glassy. So we did Motrin every 6 hours. We had dinner plans, and because she was sick and Pete's been feeling like he was on the verge of getting it, I went (it was to a friend's house who lives about a mile away). When I came in the door last night, Pete was rushing to get Lucia who was screaming her head off. I told him I'd get her, and when I picked her up, she was so incredibly hot to the touch. We undressed her and took her temperature -- it was 105.6. I quickly grabbed the baby book and it said anything over 104 you have to go right to the ER. We wiped down her head with a cool rag, then quickly piled into the car, rode with the windows down and drove as fast as we could to the hospital. We're so thankful it's so close by (less than a mile). We arrived, and I registered, and waited outside with Lucia so she could also cool down. We took off her pajamas in the ER, and though she was exhausted, she was eager to climb on the chairs and show us her Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle moves. Once we saw the doctor, they immediately gave her Motrin and Tylenol, and wanted to rule out pneumonia, so she also had a chest X-ray. No pneumonia; it's likely just a virus. We were up at 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 with her this morning.

Today we watched her very closely; she didn't have a fever until about 4 p.m. this afternoon, and she got Motrin then. We are watching her carefully to make sure it doesn't spike again.

It was absolutely terrifying experience.  I hope we never have to do that again.

Hair Intervention

Seriously in need. She refuses bows and clips. And I don't want to cut it yet... Got any suggestions?

18 Month Checkup and Showing Off New Overalls

We took Lucia in today for her 18 month appointment. It was kinda annoying because we didn't see our doctor (she was on vacation). So when the doctor helpfully suggested that we could give Lucia eggs for a protein source, we knew she hadn't read her chart. Annoying. At any rate, little miss weighs 23.8 (10.8 kg) and is 32 inches (81.3 cm) tall. She's in the 78% percentile for height and 45% for weight. Everything else seems fine. BUT we have to give up the milk before bed and start brushing her teeth every night. We tried it tonight and it went well; she was very excited to brush her teeth and drank her milk with her dinner and didn't seem to miss our quiet time together (although I'm pretty sad about giving it up). The doc also said we could try time outs; 1 minute for every year of a child's age, so 90 seconds for Lucia. This will come in very handy when she does things like this week when she hit poor Mrs. B's face with her toy, hard. Not OK. I'm picking up a stool from IKEA this weekend so we can put it in the corner of her room.

So. In this video, Little Miss does her famous wiggle wiggle wiggle on her new chair while showing off her new overalls. Kids in overalls = does it get any more precious?? Also, she demonstrates her aversion to the ottoman and I gratuitously pan over to the baby blanket I sewed for a friend that desperately needs to get into the mail.

A Chair of One's Own

We finally have a little chair for Lucia. We've been putting off getting one, and couldn't decide which kind to get. The one they have at Ikea now is pretty boring . So I looked on Craigslist and found this one, still brand new and in the box, for just $5 more than the boring chair. It matches our decor and has an ottoman, which Lucia refuses to use for her legs. She considers it something else to scale.

Throwing Pork on the Floor

Lucia likes to throw food on the floor for the dog. A lot. In this video she also blows kisses and does a modified wiggle wiggle wiggle.

Pee!

We had a milestone event tonight, Lucia peed on the potty for the first time! Yay!!
Continue the good work little miss and we will avoid the enormous pee-outs like the one we had in the newly washed car seat tonight...

Long Lost Loves

The day of our wedding in Delaware, Pete presented me with this awesome, awesome camera that had so many features I was in love with. And I loved it so much. But after our trip to Carmel in June, I couldn't find it anywhere. I last had it in his car, but it was no where to be found.

UNTIL THURSDAY. When he found it far under the seat of the car. It's black and so is the interior, so it was hard to see.

But here it is! HAPPY DAY!!!

The Trek Down South

We headed down to LA last weekend to see the very pregnant Mary and tickle Danny. She and Mr. Pants are up to their eyeballs trying to finish her film for this um, film festival you may have heard of, so it's been crazy busy. Plus she's giving birth in 5 weeks.

At any rate, we arrived around 1:30 a.m. Friday night and spent as much time together as we could. We went out to eat THREE times which is commendable even once with toddlers. We sat and talked at their place, and the kids played together nicely. We walked on the Venice promenade, which is always my favorite part. We saw a plane overhead have major issues including um, flames shooting out of one of the engines, and make a quick detour back to LAX. Whoa!

In all, it was a great but short visit. Sigh. In my perfect world, San Francisco is the epicenter, with Hockessin, Norway and Los Angeles right on the perimeter.
