First Week

Espen's first week with our nanny share was great! It's not a true nanny share; the nanny takes care of her own baby too, he is 6 weeks older than Espen. She's amazing. We did half days all last week to start. We found this great app to log in everything and she, Pete and I all have access. I get push notifications so I know exactly how things are going. She can even input notes on his mood. But the best part is pictures. Behold:

Getting some lovin'

Three months!!

We were happy to celebrate Espen's three-month birthday milestone with Pete's parents and grandmother who are visiting from Norway. They'd never had an American Fourth of July so we tried our best to make it authentic: deviled eggs, burgers, ridiculous desserts, impractical fireworks watching, etc, etc.

It was great.

And Espen continues to be great! This month he's found his feet and likes kicking them a lot. We put him on his activity mat on his back and he goes to town lifting them up. I was fascinated watching him when he dropped his pacifier recently and tried really hard to get his hand to it. Yesterday after a feeding I propped him up on the sofa pillows and we had a talk, like most days.  I talk, he squawks back. His squawks change and when they border on fussy, I give him the pacifier. But yesterday I watched him grab his pacifier and take it out and then be totally flummoxed by how to get it back in there. Pretty astonishing.

I can't believe he's three months old. He's still so little!

I can't believe he's three months old. It feels like 100 years ago since we first met face to face.

He weighs 11.5 lbs. and not gaining at a wonderful rate but my lactation consultant said not to worry. We've started phasing in 3-6 mo clothing, so I guess that's "exciting."

He remains a very snuggily baby who startles easily and feels best when he's wrapped tightly or snuggled in our arms. Some babies like facing out in carriers; not Espen. He just wants to smell us and be close.
