First Swim

The first trip to the swimming pool actually happened at the old place in Mountain View, but it was not really a real swimming trip as Lucia started screaming bloody murder by the time the cold water reached her knees. (See small photo)

This time was a success, she didn't cry or freak out, but it will be a while before she does laps.
She seemed a little hesitant about the water itself, so we took it slow and let her get used to the water on her own terms. We are all excited to go back!

Making new friends

We were invited to a BBQ today at the house where Lucia is going to go to day care. We had great food (awesome not having to cook when its 100.4F) and we met the other kids and their parents. Lucia loved it too and were very busy making new friends and exploring new toys and putting sand in her mouth for the first time. There's a first for everything right?

Strawberries are hot

I am amazed how quickly she can devour a couple of strawberries. I gave her the first berry this morning and after an initial skepticism I think she's had about 5 average size berries thus far today. I just slice them in two down the middle and give it to her and they are gone. Green leaves and all.

Allergies

Milk allergies are no fun, there are so many delicious things made with milk; cheeses, yogurts, chocolate, even pizza!

UPDATE: She may not be full-blown allergic to milk, she has no apparent discomfort other than the hives. It may be that only her skin is reacting to it, and thats it.

Indian Wedding

We went to an Indian wedding a few weeks ago; it was really interesting! My head and legs had to be covered in the temple, so I borrowed this outfit from a friend. When we came to the temple, women sat on the left and men sat on the right. Pete and Lucia had to cover their heads too. Lucia entertained everyone at the dance reception and was very upset when the older kids would run off and play. She couldn't keep up. Tragic!

SORRY!

We're sorry we have neglected you. Here are the updates:

  • Lucia now knows how to say "tittei" (pronouced: titay), which means peek-a-boo in Norwegian. She says it over and over again, and proceeds to play peek a boo. Her version of peek-a-boo ranges from actually hiding behind something and popping out, to swaying her head back and forth and saying titay.
  • Mrs B. is having a rough time. She's had um, GI issues. After trying five different foods, she's on a bland diet now, and after countless runs with our mini steam cleaner, we are all hoping the worst is behind us. Not sure we can handle those smells again.
  • Lucia turns 11 months this week. We can't even believe it. Aside from peek-a-boo, she's walking constantly, likes to point and babble to pictures in her books, and really, really likes to see pictures of other babies.
  • We'll be glad when the summer is over; not having an air conditioner is uh, tough.
  • Thank god for our gas grill, which we use just about every day. We're addicted to the grilled pizzas.
  • We have nothing planned this weekend and it is LOVELY. I'm going to the Farmer's Market tomorrow a.m. with Little Miss, and we're meeting up with some friends to borrow a stroller.

We will miss you!

My parents just left after having spent 13 days with us, and we are so sad to see them leave. There were enormously helpful with so many things.
We had made a very long ToDo list of more than 40 items to do around the house and we managed to knock off most of them in very little time. We made a few trips to Ikea, Home Depot, Bad Breath & Behind and finally feel like we are no longer living in boxes.
We also managed to have some fun, like a picnic, trips to local restaurants, a SF Giants game, the baptism at the Norwegian Seamens Church, and a little trip on Skyline in the Miata.

Visiting The San Francisco Ferry Building

The San Francisco Ferry Building is an amazing place for anyone interested in gourmet foods, on warm sunny weekends it is also a place you will find enormous crowds. Taylors for instance has great hamburgers, but are they really worth standing in a 40-person deep line to get?
Note to self; Go to the SF ferry building on cold foggy weekdays, not weekends.

Lunchtime

Heather invited the clan to visit her at work for lunch. We had a great time and was a little jealous of how great her canteen is.
Lucia surprised us by grabbing her own lunch out of the dish; a cracker that she started biting off.

Bless Her

We had a wonderful baptism; the meticulous planning by Nina and I was well worth it, the day went off without a hitch. More pictures to come...

First Baseball Game

The Giants lost, but we couldn't tell. We had a great time until the fog was too cold.
